Getting to Know Powderhorn
Powderhorn is an easy drive off of I-70, just 45 minutes from Grand Junction and the Grand Junction Regional Airport. If you’re thinking of visiting for the first time check out the local lodging options and activities on this site – you’ll find something for everyone in your family or group.
LODGING
There are plenty of lodging options in the area with convenient and comfortable accommodations. On the mountain, Powderhorn offers multiple lodging options. We also recommend many lodging partners in the area from the top of the Grand Mesa – the world’s largest flat top mountain – to the vineyards of Palisade or the lively heart of Grand Junction.
Suggested Itinerary
Fill Out A Waiver
Prior to visiting, whether you purchased a Season Pass online, or plan to do a Scenic Chairlift Ride you must fill out a waiver.
Warm-up with Hither and Yon to Mutton Buster
For first timers, we suggest doing a few laps on Hither and Yon to build confidence in all ages. Once ready, we suggest proceeding down Mutton Buster, which brings riders back down to the lift.
Lunch Break
Grab a taco from Thunderbird Tacos or a tasty drink from the Umbrella Bar, then snag a table and enjoy some fun in the sun! Take-out and dine-in options available.
Afternoon Progression
Progression is different for all riders. The difficulty of a trail progresses as followed: Green (beginner), Blue (intermediate), then Black (advanced). If you feel ready to take on harder terrain, take a moment to educate yourself on proper trail safety on our safety page.
What to Wear for Downhill Mountain Biking
Protective clothing and equipment is mandatory for all riders. The best protection from abrasion requires a properly fitted full-face helmet, gloves, long pants, long sleeves, leg armour, arm armour, and solid biking shoes (open toes shoes are prohibited while biking).
Trail Report
Check out the interactive map for information on each trail at the Powderhorn Bike Park. The Trail Report not only updates guests on which trails are open, but also shows how long each trail is.
